Homestay Griya Jungutan, Ubud – Review

When my stay at the yoga retreat has come to an end, Kirsten and I decided to find a nice place somewhere in the centre of Ubud.

We wanted somewhere quiet, but didn’t expect it to be in the centre.. we also wanted to stay somewhere nice, homely, with a swimming pool and ideally breakfast included.. not a lot to ask, right?

We grabbed a taxi to Ubud and started wandering around, visiting shops, eating delicious food and at the same time, searching for our home for the next few days, knowing that compromises on the list above will have to be made.

We then ended up walking down a quiet and super colourful ally way. After walking past a few market stands, a cute restaurant/bar, which was lit up brightly by the shining lanterns – we ended up in a different world. A world completely separated from the rushing cars, tourists and shops.

It was so peaceful and beautiful. Almost a tiny jungle, with a little river in the middle – surrounded by little temples and beautiful tall, stunning trees.

At the very entry to that little paradise, we saw two signs – one for a spa and one for a homestay.

“There’s a homestay here?!”

Of course, we had to check it out.

Turns out we didn’t have to compromise, at all.

We got a twin bedroom, with a view of our newly discovered ‘jungle’ paradise, right next to the pool and breakfast included.

All that (in the centre of Ubud) for about Rp.260.000 – £15 for two people, per night.

Winnings.

The homestay / guest house is run by the loveliest couple – Ririn and Mario. They will make you feel right at home from the very start. They will help you with booking different activities and trips and whatever else you need. Lilin even called a couple of doctors for me when I was searching for a specific injection but couldn’t communicate due to the language barrier.

We visited out of season, so the place was really quiet – making our stay even more perfect. When having breakfast – we were invited to the ‘family table’ and ate together with other guests.

Oh and the breakfast – there are different options to choose from, so unlike most B&B’s – you don’t have to eat the same thing every single day.

Perfect.
